Our House Pictures (Before and After)~Page 5

Welcome to the fifth page of our house before and afters! Here you will see pictures of the kitchen remodel. I think it's safe to say that it was the largest of all our projects so far. There was not much we could do to enlarge it or change the lay out so we concentrated on the cosemetics and updating it. To our best estimate, it had not be done in about twenty years.

So, what all was done? Let's see...all new counters, sanded, restained and added trim to the top of the cabinets, knocked out the soffit, painted the ceiling and walls, ripped down the old tile backsplash and did a texture effect, new lighting, added decorative trim to the window, new flat top stove, new ceramic tile and new faucet.

How was it done? The only way it should be. I, as the wife, designed and shopped for everything. Then I packed up the girls and headed out of town while Matt, as the husband, stayed behind to demo and replace everything. It worked beautifully :)

Matt and his friends (who we will be in debt to forever) spent many, many man hours to get the project completed in two weekends (and days throughout the work week). It was not without its snags and hang ups however. Afterall, what good remodel is without the few surprises such as 30 year old vinyl flooring under 20 year old ceramic tile and a wall left so damaged, it was almost beyond repair? But Matt is not one to give up easily! And it totally paid off. We now have the updated kitchen we had dreamt of.

You may notice, too, that Matt redid our family room flooring. That, amazingly, was done (demo to completion) in a mere 6 hours.

Please be patient while all images load.

Same shot after

Notice the soffit, tile backsplash and dark cabinets

The soffit is gone, textured walls replace the tile and whew, luckily the cabinets sanded down and took the new stain.

A shot looking into the family room. Notice the old whitish berber carpet.

New flooring in the family room completes our "log cabin retreat" theme.

One final before shot

I adore my new sink area with the new fauct, soffit removed, new lighting and window framing.

The fun part...DEMO TIME!

Time to call in a contractor? Nope! Not when Matt's on the job!

A close up shot of the new counters

A closer picture of the new backsplash.

We added some grapevine decoration to the top of the cabinets

The tile that was found underneath the carpet

What a difference a new floor makes!
